Episode One- The Challenge of Food Security

In episode one of Cleveland Food Stories, we look at hunger challenges facing many residents of Cleveland and Northeast Ohio. We ask why so many don't know where their next meal might come from. And, we look at what is being done about it. In the end, you will be inspired by how many dedicated Clevelanders are helping their own communities and confronting the underlying roots of food insecurity.

FEATURED ORGANIZATIONS-

HIP Cuyahoga - is a collaborative initiative between Cuyahoga County Public Health, health care partners, and grassroots leaders.

Promise Neighborhood - Sisters of Charity Foundation: operates a campaign focused on promoting healthy families and youth in Cleveland’s Central Neighborhood.

Greater Cleveland Food Bank - is six-county Food Bank that services over 600 food pantries and community sites in Northeast Ohio.

Food Access Raises Everyone (FARE)- is facilitated by The Philadelphia-based Food Trust, this effort works to foster greater collaboration in greater Cleveland to improve access to healthy food.

Stone Soup Cleveland- connects people with produce, product and prepared food – reducing waste and creating healthy meals for the people who need them most.

The Growing Church- is a church based in a greenhouse and urban farmstead that focuses on improving health through a deeper connection to food and the land in Cleveland’s Mt Pleasant Neighborhood.

The Garden Valley Neighborhood House- is the largest food pantry in Cleveland that offers additional support, skills, and training to get people out of the food bank lines.
